David Horsey

Inexplicably, it took 87 years for Cheshire to have a player in the Walker Cup team. Styal G.C.'s David Horsey's strong form in the major amateur events secured his place in the star-studded team for the match at Royal County Down in 2007. Alongside Horsey were Rory McIlroy and Danny Willett.

Dave Horsey emerged from the excellent junior coaching scheme at Styal G.C., and began to make his mark on the amateur game in Cheshire and beyond. He won his first County Championship at Royal Liverpool in 2005, and he retained his title in a low-scoring championship at Stockport in 2006 where he held off Jamie Howarth. Horsey was 17 under par (65+68+67+67=267), a record for the Championship, and Howarth on 14 under must have felt very unfortunate not to win with such a fine total.

County Secretary Steve Foster watches Dave Horsey drive in the 2006 County Championship at Sockport. Nice trousers!

Cheshire's first player to make the Walker Cup Team, 2007 at Royal County Down. A couple of other decent players in this line-up!

Dave turned pro after the Walker Cup, and went on to forge a very successful career, recording four wins on the European Tour.
